Situation

While on a mission to build a future-proof bank, ABN-AMRO decided to modernize the workplace and deploy Office365. ABN-AMRO is one of the largest banks in the Netherlands and by future-proofing their internal IT environment they are able to positively impact millions of customers. When switching to a new way of working, it is very important that employees are familiar with the functionalities and benefits of their new modern workplace. When employees are enthusiastic about the new possibilities, they show this to their colleagues. They become the ambassadors of the new way of working and are able to exceed customer expectations.

Bottlenecks

Just offering the right software is not enough. If people do not know the possibilities, they will never use it. Resulting in loss of productivity and inefficient workarounds. Only when employees recognise, use and embrace the new functionalities, the predefined objectives will be achieved. The impact of new technology on the way employees do their work is greater than often thought. This makes attention to the added value of the new technology in everyone’s workplace very important. However, with almost 20.000 employees at ABN-AMRO we needed a little help from the employees to spread this information across the organisation. That is why we organised the ‘Explorer-day’.

Approach

Inspiring 700 Explorers in just 1 day, that’s what we did during the ‘Explorer-day’. We offered 6 different inspiration sessions, all with a different focus such as ‘security’, ‘online meetings’ and ‘collaboration’. We offered a first impression of the many possibilities within Office 365. We shared practical examples and discussed typical ABN-AMRO work-routines. The goal of the inspiration session was to give the explorers basic knowledge of Office 365, get familiar with the possibilities, learn the added value for their own work and get insight in the behavioural part of using Office 365.

Result

During this day we not only informed 700 explorers of ABN-AMRO, we also inspired them to get started with Office 365. The basics of the various apps were explained. That’s helpful to know. But to learn how to work smarter individually and together, you also need to know the tricks that will bring the added value on a daily basis. We zoomed in on specific functionalities that will really make a difference for employees in their daily work. The combination of Office 365 and the focus on the employee turned out to be a golden combination! ABN-AMRO’s Explorer day provided a positive view on the use of Office 365. A day with great impact. The employees are enthusiastic and this energy is (still) spreading throughout the organisation.
