1uur.nu makes the difference in more ways than one:
Co-workers learn more, because they receive personal coaching and they can apply what they learn immediately.
Both teams and the organization as a whole benefit from our approach, which starts with the individual and advances each person in turn.
Management stays up-to-date thanks to our continued reporting and feedback. Moreover, normal operations can continue undisturbed.
Personal, practical and at your own desk
Everyone is different. Everyone learns differently. Coaching and training by 1uur.nu adapts to what your people already know, to how fast they learn and to what they really feel they need. We don’t waste time teaching what people already know or won’t put to use.
Do immediately, remember immediately
People can learn in a classroom. But most people forget what they’ve learned soon after stepping out the door. This is known as the doorway effect. On entering a new space, most people discard a lot of their short term memories. This is why we prefer to coach at people’s own place of work.
Practice makes precious
New skills stay with us if we learn by doing: the so-called ‘70:20:10 rule’. People learn:
10% through formal instruction;
20% by watching others;
70% by doing.
Where you work is where it happens
In the classroom people often have trouble articulating what’s bothering them at work: their questions are sub-conscious. Classroom training then fails to address such questions: the best learning is practice. Another reason why our coaches and trainers focus on the workplace.
The entire team, improved one by one
Time is wasted when people do their work in different ways. At 1uur.nu we always take the overall effect into account – whether we’re working with individuals or in group sessions.
Our name and reputation were based on the individual 1 hour sessions. But the results of our approach go beyond! When co-workers acquire the same skill simultaneously, they also stimulate each other to apply it in practice. A one-on-one approach results in a collective effect.
Sometimes it may be best to begin with a team session, to determine where individual ways of working diverge. Co-workers then receive personal attention to improve the relevant skills. They immediately apply what they’ve learned in practice.
How do we do it?
We inventory both our clients’ and our participants’ need beforehand. What change is expected? What result is desired? When is our work a success? Then we arrive at an approach based on our products and formats .
Training and coaching begins; one by one we raise the skill set for all participants. Our coaching and training are made to fit seamlessly with the normal workflow. Because we usually visit each person’s desk, sessions may be flexibly fitted into one’s work calendar and logistics are kept to a minimum.
We close each project with met extensive feedback to our client as well as to each individual participant. These don’t just quote the numbers: how many participants and days trained, but we reflect on subject matter: insights gained, most common frustrations, new agreed procedures and so on.
Aside from personal coaching and training we can also arrange for a digital library, online tools and/or remote personal support. These ‘blended learning’ components allow everyone to stay familiar with learnings at their leisure.
